This is a recording of the original soundtrack I improvised for a screening of the Weimar-era silent classic chiller 'The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari' performed live at Leigh Film Factory on Sunday 22nd October 2023.

This was a really challenging but hugely enjoyable project - improvising 75 minutes of music to a film I'd watched perhaps a couple of times previously, in front of a cinema audience, was almost as nerve-wracking as the tale of the nefarious Dr Caligari & the poor, dreadful somnambulist Cesare, itself.

This recording makes most sense if you watch the film simultaneously. There are a few prints available - visit archive.org/details/TheCabinetOfDr.Caligari1920FULLMOVIE for a very similar version to the one I performed to. If you start the audio when the main title card appears on screen, music & picture will be roughly in-sync.
